Is it Halloween Yet?

Is it Halloween Yet???
I want to decorate and dress up, and trust me that is a BIG deal. I haven't dressed up for Halloween since I was 12. I feel silly in real life more often than I would like to admit, so why inflict that on myself voluntarily ... but this year it's different.

Maybe it is that Larkin understands what all the fuss is about this year. Maybe it is that Scot gets to trick-or-treat with us this year. Maybe it is that we always want the one thing in life we can't have ... this year, for me, it is a house to decorate.

We are currently in the process of moving. It has been a roller coaster ride of grown-up decisions and full blown toddlerish meltdowns (and they haven't all been Larkin's). I want this move to be over.
I want to put up my orange and black and spooky.

On a different note: this week's weight loss total is 31.8, and this week it was all Scot. 68.2 pounds to go. I am hoping that in another month we will reach the half way mark. 50 pounds! that will be a huge, and ironically we will not be ... huge that is :)

Bring on October! I am ready for sweaters and pumpkins and chocolate and ghosts and a new house and bran muffins ... what? I like bran muffins.

Operation Get Skinny Update Week 4

I didn't post last week because I was a little loco with things to do, and our weight is only a part of who we are. Our weight doesn't need a front page headline every week :)

We had a crazy week. It was Scot's birthday, so there was a little celebratory eating. And when I say a little, I really mean a ton. Yikes. We got a puppy, and we have had at least four other major changes in our home and family this last week that I can't go into at this point, but stress eating was a major struggle for me this week.

Drum roll please .... this week we are down a combined 29.6 pounds! Crazy right!?! In a month I have lost more weight than I have in three years. One big change at our house ... we eat the serving size listed on the package of every food. If the serving size is too small to satisfy us it's a good clue that the food isn't the best choice out there. Picking foods that are low in calories, high in fiber are also a MUST!!! This week's pick: Trader Joes "Fiberful" fruit leather. 60 calories and 6g of fiber! Now that's a healthy snack!!!

We have 70.4 pounds to go! It's a great feeling! Let us know of any healthy tips you have tried at your house. We are always looking for new ways to misplace a few pounds!

Happy Day-of-Birth Mr. Rice!

Happy Birthday to a man who does it all!

Dear Scot,

I love the funny things you say without even trying to make me laugh. I love your creative spirit and your determination to find all the beauty in life. I love watching you play with our daughter. I love whispering with you at night while the rest of the house sleeps. I love cooking in the kitchen with you. I love reading books with you. I love watching our favorite tv shows when we know we should be snoozing in bed. I love that you make humming bird food for me. I love that you get all the stuff on the top shelves for me. I love that you turned my world upside down, and at the same time, put it all in order when you found me.

You are an amazing man and I am happy to share another birthday with you!!!

Love,
Amy

Meet Tucker Benson Rice

Meet Tucker. He is 100% adorable. He is the newest addition to our little family. He loves to snuggle and chase anything that squeaks.

Scot and I have wanted a dog for.ev.er! We have looked and looked and researched and looked ... finally I found a puppy just in time for Scot's birthday. He was so surprised and so excited.

Larkin is over-the-moon in love with her new little playmate. Tucker is a little terrified of Larkin's squeals and exuberance, but I'm hoping he warms up to her a little more as he settles in.

Happy birthday babe! I love you enough to sacrifice my clean carpets for you :)

(How cute is Scot with his teeny tiny little doggy!)

Operation Get Skinny Update

Week 2:

So ... I'm a little bit of a nerd, well, except I'm not, but I am. The proof: I added up our weight loss total for last week incorrectly.
What can I say, math is not my strong suit (and that's an understatement!)

Our weight loss total for last week was 12.6#s combined ... I know, you are probably thinking I increased it 2#s to make myself look better, but the truth is, those 2#s were Scot's and he is working too hard not to give him credit for every single ounce!!!

On to this week

The grand total thus far (with the updated numbers from last week) is .......................................... 20.1#s!!!!! That means we are 79.9#s away from reaching our big goal. (You can gasp and cheer for us now if you want)

Holy Moley! is all I can say. I haven't been this weight since Larkin was born! Scot hasn't been this weight since right after we got married! Not to mention this is the longest we have stuck with any one weight loss plan. We have tried lots and LOTS of "diets" but this healthy change-for-the-better seems to be just the right amount of limits and agency. I don't know about you, but I thrive when both are present.

Good luck this week in all your healthy endeavours!
